The alarm clock commercial, the resumption of the activities of the port, the opening of the first railway lines, the development of the navy with vapor, explains the growth of the city. This development is accompanied by a spectacular demographic expansion, due partly to the rural migration, but also to an increasingly strong foreign emigration.
