The cathedral, called New the Major,a built of 1852 to 1893 in a style byzantin which creates a contrast seizing with the quays of Joliette that one dominates since the square.

This construction unfortunately involved the destruction partial of old the Major, thus depriving Marseilles of one of the oldest churches, and the loss, invaluable, historical information.
