Charles II (1248-1309) known as the Lame one Count de Provence Wire of Charles Ier of Anjou and Beatrice, countess of Provence. It was born into 1248. King de Naples, titular king of Jerusalem (1285-1309). Titular king of Sicily (1285-1302). Count d' Anjou and of Maine (1285-1290). Count de Provence (1285). Count de Forcalquier. Prince de Tarente. Died on May 5 1309 in Casanova. Buried in Aix-en-Provence (Rhone delta, France). It marries Marie of Hungary which is the sister and the heiress of the King Ladislas IV of Hungary. Charles II and Marie have thirteen children: Charles Martel (1271-1295), titular king of Hungary; Marguerite (1273-1299), countess of Anjou; Saint-Louis of Anjou (1274/5-1298), bishop of Toulouse; Robert the Wise one (1277-1343), king de Naples; Philippe Ier (1278-1332), prince de Tarente; White of Anjou (1280-1310); Raymond-Berenger of Anjou (1281-1307), count de Provence; Jean of Anjou (1283-ap. 1308); Tristan of Anjou (1284-1284/8); Eléonore of Anjou (1289-1341); Marie of Anjou (1290-ap. 1346); Pierre of Anjou (1292-1315), count de Gravina; Jean of Anjou (1294-1336), duke of Lasted; Beatrice of Anjou (1295-1320/1). Charles II became King under difficult conditions, his diplomatic skill which results in marriages crossed with the family of Aragon enabled him to stabilize the presence of the House of Anjou in Italy of the South. Charles II does not neglect Provence, it is concerned with improve his administration which for as much remains under the supervision of the Court of Naples. He is made represent in Provence by his third Robert wire which carries the title of Vicar. |
