Low-relief, exposed to ND. guard,
from Saint-Louis of Anjou, painted by the artist Valère Bernard.

Louis of Anjou was celebrated a long time in Marseilles. As of 1328 a fair known as of " Saint-Louis " was held in the vicinity of its convent located at the current site of the Stock Exchange and the street Carpet-Green. In 1852 the part of the Course lain between the street of Rome and Canebière was baptized " Saint-Louis course ", while a new district, which developed in the north of the city around an oratory dedicated to this saint, took the name of " Saint-Louis ". The artist Valère Bernard lived and died in the foot of Our-Lady of the Guard (a place, within the Vauban district, bears its name).
