Le "lance-flammes défensif modèle 42 ", était constitué d'un réservoir cylindrique en acier, surmonté d'un tuyau projecteur.

L'engin était enterré, ne laissant dépasser que le tube de projection au niveau du sol; bien sûr, il était plus possible alors de modifier la direction du jet ou de le recharger.
Le déclenchement du tir était assuré à distance électriquement depuis l'intérieur d'un abri par l'intermédiaire d'un réseau de fils alimentés à des batteries et la mise à feu faite grâce à un pétard situé à la bouche du tuyau.

J'étais couvert de sang. J'ai cru à une attaque et j'ai déclenché prématurément les lance-flammes à commande électrique". On peut imaginer, ce qui nous serait arrivé, sans la mort providentielle de ce "spécialiste" qui aurait déclenché au coup par coup, et au "bon moment" ses engins de mort.
